Deliver impeccable power and temperature control for global golf tournament

The 2019 Solheim Cup is the premier tournament of the global ladies golfing calendar. The biggest stars from both Europe and the USA would do battle at the historic Gleneagles golf course in Scotland to decide which team would lift the famous cup.

To deliver such a prestigious event demands the highest standards. There could be no room for error. Tens of thousands of spectators would pack the famous location to see the dramatics unfold, which would add to the requirements to fulfil an event of this scale.

Fan engagement, broadcasting, and much more, required mobile and modular temperature control and uninterrupted power.

The 2019 Solheim Cup demanded nothing but the best and an experienced partner who had produced the goods for sporting events of an international stature was necessary.

The Solution

Expertise, reliability and a dash of innovation

Aggreko were chosen to provide energy and temperature control for the event. Our experience in delivering for sporting events across the globe would prove to be pivotal, and our experts began to devise a solution that would encompass the many facilities the event had.

This would be the biggest incarnation of the biennial event since records began. We delivered around 33km of cabling and 242 distribution boards, which would connect 19 chillers and provide the reliability that we have built a reputation on.

We also decided to reduce the carbon impact for the event by introducing two solar-battery hybrid modules into the power mix. This would lessen the load of the thermal generators, which would reduce the fuel usage too.

The Impact

Seamless delivery, reduced fuel spend and carbon reduction across the whole event

Nearly one hundred thousand spectators flooded Gleneagles to see what was one of the most tense, dramatic finales ever witnessed not just in golf – but in team sport. Europe clinched the Solheim Cup on the final match – and throughout the four-day tournament, Aggreko provided the perfect stage for the action.

The breath-taking action on the fairways and greens of the Gleneagles golf resort contrasted with the unyielding reliability and serene delivery that our mobile, modular power, heating and cooling provided.

The integration of the solar-battery hybrid into the power mix saved our customer 690 litres of fuel – an equivalent carbon reduction of around 1865kg for the entirety of the event.
