Formula E, the world’s most sustainable sport, is famed for mostly racing on the streets of some of the world’s most iconic cities.
The racing series prides itself on making its circuits easily accessible through public transport, meaning its locations can sometimes be held in places difficult to power. It was vital that each event went off without a hitch, being suitably powered whilst also being as green as possible.
Solar Power and Stage V Generators to Power the Way
The majority of Formula E’s Season 10 international races were held on street tracks and constructed specifically for the event, with Aggreko’s temporary solutions assisting to ensure race weekends ran seamlessly. Aggreko’s experts created specialised tailor-made plans to assist with powering all cars, Formula E’s on-site hospitality, the Allianz Fan Village and fan experiences, as well as different energy points around the track such as timing and camera points, ensuring all processes are made to be as efficient and sustainable as possible. Aggreko ensured events were powered via renewable energy such as biofuel generators, solar arrays, and the latest battery technology. At select races, Aggreko supplied six 300kVA batteries to charge all Formula E cars, as well as varying battery sizes to power the overall circuit at race locations. At the Portland ePrix, there was a 20,000L reduction in HVO (hydrotreated vegetable oils) used compared to the same race the previous year. With the US event moving location to Miami, Aggreko aims to introduce battery technology for the first time to the States.
Formula E continues to run on pure green energy.
With both Formula E and Aggreko, sustainability runs at the heart of what both companies do. Aggreko showcased across Season 10 that its solutions can help Formula E continue its Net Zero pathway, furthering Formula E’s sustainable footprint and allowing for the racing series to continue to thrive on the streets of the world.
