Largest Solar Array at SailGP event to date

Aggreko and SailGP’s partnership runs deep, with Aggreko being part of the series since its inception. The sailing series is on a journey to run only clean energy events by 2025. Home to the world’s most exciting racing on water, SailGP aims to run only sustainable events. With the events primary being on water, Aggreko needed to make sure each event could be suitably energised, whilst also sticking to SailGP’s strong sustainability message.

Complete 360 energy from Aggreko at each event

Aggreko energised the entire footprint for each SailGP event, including the technical services, race teams locations and fan zones. Different types of solar were used around the space, depending on the size and power load needed for each individual area. By opting for HVO instead of traditional diesel to power the generators, Aggreko facilitated an impressive 23,533kg reduction in CO2 equivalent emissions at the KPMG Australia Sail Grand Prix. Aggreko efficiently generated 22,770 kWh of power utilising HVO, demonstrating the viability and effectiveness of this environmentally friendly fuel source. This was achieved with 9,141 litres of HVO, boasting an exceptional efficiency rate of 0.4 litres per kWh. We set up our largest-ever temporary solar solution, including four solar arrays, at the Emirates Dubai Sail Grand Prix. The event was powered with 100% clean energy on shore, saving a huge 64 tonnes of carbon. It wasn’t just energy that Aggreko was brought in for. It’s services also included a temperature control system, lighting and a critical power system for the broadcast of the sailing action.

Cleaner sporting events on the horizon

By the end of the 2023-24 season, SailGP was regularly running clean energy events. Throughout the nine clean energy events ran this season, an average saving of 85% on carbon emissions through fuel efficiencies. SailGP have taken risks to deliver new technologies on very critical applications.
