The R&A has worked with Aggreko since 2001, with Aggreko becoming an Official Supplier to The Open in 2024. The partnership has since deepened, with Aggreko now serving as The Official Energy Transition Supplier, helping to truly drive a sustainable future for the event. This expanded relationship saw Aggreko become an Official Supplier to The AIG Women's Open in 2025, allowing for the introduction of these sustainable energy solutions, such as solar and battery storage, across women's golf. 2025 saw The 153rd Open at Royal Portrush and the AIG Womens Open at Royal Porthcawl, powered in the most efficient way.

Aggreko is the primary supplier of temporary power and temperature control for several major areas at the event, including hospitality structures such as Origins Hospitality and the Patrons Pavilion. Their services are also essential for critical operational zones like The Open Clubhouse (for players usage), the Media Centre, the spectator shop, and the entire TV broadcast compound. Plenty of key sustainable technologies were deployed across The 153rd Open. The site implements a robust sustainable power strategy, primarily using Stage V generators fuelled exclusively by Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO), a biofuel that reduces engine emissions by up to 90% compared to standard diesel. This is complemented by a significant deployment of renewable energy sources, including over 20 battery storage solutions, two solar farms and solar panels on structures. Batteries are essential for powering critical components like scoreboards and screens, storing daytime solar energy for slow release at night to conserve fuel. The complex power design, including solutions like a battery and generator pairing for the 18th grandstand's Spydercam, required over a year of planning. Alongside this, Aggreko ran a STEM activation. This activation featured two main components, a hands-on challenge utilising a programmable golf ball which allowed participants to attempt to land it into a designated hole, and The Energy Zone, where people are quizzed on what Aggreko is doing onsite. The entire zone was partially powered by solar panels that had been integrated atop the activation's container structure. The preparation and conclusion of the championship, which extends beyond the weeks of competition, also benefits from this commitment. Aggreko's solar arrays, for instance, are the first thing on-site and the last thing to leave, providing sustainable energy throughout the entire setup and de-rigging process.

The R&A is able to continue to strive to be one of the most sustainable organisations in Golf. These efforts generated 36.9 MWh of solar, bringing a massive saving to the running of The 153rd Open. Through being a reliable supplier, Aggreko has built its foundations and expanded its partnerships with the prestigious events across the UK.

Aggreko have worked with The R&A for a number of years, and to now be linked in with the AIG Women's Open is an incredibly proud moment. It means that we can now start to introduce the sustainable solutions, such as solar solutions, battery storage solutions, across Women's Golf, and start to bring the sustainable aspects and the sustainable energy solutions into the focus for Women's Golf. It's an incredibly proud moment for Aggreko.
