Give illustrious golf event a greener power source – without affecting reliability

The Aramco golf tournament is the first of its kind. All eyes are on this prestigious golfing spectacle, where the victor will be awarded with a $1million prize.

With such a large spotlight on this event, the tournament organisers needed not only a reliable, experienced partner to provide the energy for the event infrastructure (lodge, tournament office, lighting and more) – but a cleaner, more sustainable approach was wanted too.

How could the tournament begin its sustainability journey and simultaneously put on a show where the golfing world would be watching?

The Solution

Hybrid energy with mobile, modular batteries adding dependability during peak loads

With Ryder Cups, the European Tour and more under our belt when it comes to providing dependable power – we were ready at the drop of a pin to help Aramco toward its targets – both for power and sustainability.

This tournament represented a series of events – four locations, four winning prizes.

The location in question was Sotogrande in Spain. And after consulting with Aramco, our experts assembled a plan that would deliver a smaller environmental footprint that was desired – without impacting on the reliability that this prestigious event demanded.

We would implement a total of 12 generators to provide the main power and three, 45 kVA batteries that would kick in and lighten the load on the generators. This cut the run-time for the generators, not to mention the noise levels and fuel burn.

This hybrid solution covered all bases for this tournament, thanks to our experienced experts on site and our adaptable equipment.

The Impact

Reduced noise, emissions and cost for flagship sporting event

With the introduction of our batteries into the power mix, more than 1200 litres of fuel was saved.

This also meant that noise was reduced – in fact there was zero noise in critical areas, so the tournament could proceed without disruption. Up to 2000 spectators could enjoy the golfing action and for future events in this series in New York and Jeddah, we have many different options to continue to deliver sustainable and silent energy solutions.

The bottom line of this event success is that it shows event organisers around the world that events of this scale can be set up using hybrid energy.

"In terms of our partnership with Aggreko, we always expect that everything is going to run smoothly. The partnership is great and it´s growing stronger."
